At 3 AM on a Friday night A-Tech responded to a major water intrusion episode that began on the top floor of a large hospital in Los Angeles that provides essential services to the greater LA area. The moisture traveled through all floors and many departments including labor and delivery, intensive care, Med-Surgical all the way to the  to the 1st floor Emergency Rooms. It was imperative to address the moisture situation immediately and thoroughly due to the health and safety of patients.


A-Tech mobilized immediately and worked around the clock conducting moisture mapping utilizing moisture probing, physical and visual inspection and Thermo Imaging (FLIRtm) to determine the extent of moisture intrusion. Due to the age of the hospital, a thorough asbestos, lead and mold assessment of all affected areas was conducted. A-Tech developed a comprehensive scope of work and coordinated with a restoration/remediation contractor to immediately dry and remove asbestos, lead and mold affected walls, floors and ceilings, as necessary.  As our firm has an experienced and ACAC Certified Environmental Infection Control Consultant, we were able to provide the expertise to create a safe environment that adhered to all hospital infection control protocols in construction during this emergency project. Around the clock project management and monitoring was provided during this project as well as on site asbestos clearances, ongoing respirable dust monitoring, mold air monitoring and rush clearance monitoring. Our goal was to ensure all areas were safe for occupancy, while returning the departments back to the hospital as quickly as possible and create a safe work environment that minimally disturbed the hospital staff and patient population.
